Athletic Training Services Policies
The
Athletic Training Staff of Westfield High School is available to help
the athletes and coaches of Westfield High School and visiting schools
when notified in a timely fashion. We currently have three staff
athletic trainers to cover ALL athletic events and treat all athletes in
a high school that is ranked 4th in enrollment in Texas. This makes time
a valuable commodity, and notification of changes in schedules and
practices will be needed to be done in a professional and timely manner.
We ask that if you need to change a practice or game, please notify the
athletic training staff 48 hours in advance. This is to allow us to
adjust our professional and personal schedules to accommodate the
request. Request within 48 hours in advance will be answered in a timely
fashion as to if we are able to help with the change of scheduling. Of
course changes in scheduling because of weather will not fall under the
48 hours ruling, but please do not wait until the last minute to notify
the athletic training staff.
We also ask the a game/scrimmage schedule be sent to the athletic training staff as soon as you get your schedule completed. Also please give a practice schedule to the athletic training staff two weeks in advance. This will allow us to prepare a schedule for coverage. If practices change consistently, or we are not notified that practice is changed to different times then we will set a standard time for arrival to secure scheduling consistency.
Westfield High School has a single training room where ALL treatments will be conducted. The training room is for the evaluation, prevention and rehabilitation of athletic injuries for all athletes, both boys and girls.
Our staff will be available at set times during the year. We will be on campus for the first team's practice and remain on campus until after the last practice is over. If your team has athletes that need treatments you will need to have them come to the training room as soon as practice is over (after showering). If they decide to play after practice on their own, we will not wait until they decide that is it treatment time.
The following rules apply for both training rooms and should be followed.
Report to Roll Call
Shower Before Entering the Training Room
Always Enter and Exit the Athletic Training Room from the Courtyard Door
Enter for Taping, Evaluation or Treatment only; the Training Room is NOT the Student Lounge
No Cleats or Dirty Shoes

No Foul Language
The Athletic Training Staff will provide squad sheets of student athletes playing specific sports to the specific coaches of that sport. If the coach sees that either a player is included on the squad sheet that has decided not to participate, it is the coaches responsibility to notify the athletic training Staff of this change. Also, any new student athletes participating in a specific sport need to be reported to the Athletic Training Staff IMMEDIATELY.
Student Athletes MUST have a completed valid and current physical on file to
participate even in off
season conditioning drills during the athletic period. They MUST ALSO have a
completed and current medical history and parental permission forms returned to
the Athletic Training Staff to be eligible. If a coach decides to allow a
student to participate knowing that these requirements are not fulfilled, that
coach is in direct violation with UIL rules and the Athletic Director will be
notified.
Any coach that decides that the papers are not important enough to maintain current, they will be responsible for their sports papers for their sports student athletes. At that time, that coach will also be responsible for filing any insurance claims for that sports student athletes and any subsequent follow up papers needed to process the claim.
Before a coach can take a student athlete to a game or scrimmage away from our campus, that coach must have a parent signed Emergency Card from ALL students attending the contest. These Emergency Cards are for medical emergencies should a student athlete become injured while away from his/her parents. These cards are written permission for medical treatment of a minor child without the presence of the parent or guardian. These cards, along with all other forms are available from an Athletic Training Staff member in the Main Training Room.
As stated above, the Athletic Training Staff is here to help the coaches be prepared for the season as well as the post season.
The Athletic Training Staff of Westfield High School consists of three Staff Athletic Trainers, Susan Smith, Richard Davis, and Todd Matz.
